This
is from the time 12 years back when I was doing an MBA from Sinhgad Institutes
in Lonavala. A beautiful college campus in the middle of the mountain. Our
hostel was at the top where fog used to enter into our rooms in winter. Most of
the time was spent in the hostel doing some nonsense activity (all you can
imagine) than in the classroom. It was a 2-year holiday package for most of us.
Every room in the hostel had 3 students. We were 50 students from the same
class living next to each other's room. All my 50 friends were distinctly
unique in their own abilities to screw each other in some way or other. I had 2 roommates, Punit and Rajnikanth (Names
are changed to protect the privacy of individuals) Punit was the most
easy-going guy. He was a dedicated student when it came to playing games on his
laptop. He was a kickass virtual fighter. On the other hand, Rajnikanth was
exactly like his name says. Stylish, stunt man, cool with girls, born leader
and also often easily misguided by his friends.
One Sunday afternoon
post-lunch I was chilling in my hostel room. Punit was busy in his laptop
playing a video game. And Rajni was lying on his bed which was next to the
door. I was getting bored. So I thought to exercise my unique ability to mess
with others for self-entertainment. In the very next room, our good friend
Chetan was sleeping. Chetan was fond of teasing and messing up with Rajni every
now & then. I got up and told Punit & Rajni that let's mess up with
Chetan as he is sleeping. I asked them not to leave their place & stay cool
as if had nothing happened. I went out, walked quietly to Chetan's room, the
door was closed. I knocked hard on his door, ran into my room & laid down
on my bed reading some book. Punit & Rajni started laughing so I asked them
to shut up & stay cool. Then Chetan came in our room with his eyes
half-closed from sleep asking us why did we wake him up. I said, 'We didn't
wake you, we all are sitting in our room.' My partners in crime nodded their
head trying to suppress their laughter. Chetan went back thinking someone else
might have knocked on the door. After 5 minutes I again went and repeated the
same drill. This kept on going for 4 to 5 times. Knock the door -> Run ->
Lay on the bed -> Chetan entering our room pissed off -> Us saying we
didn't knock. By this time Chetan had reached the boiling point.
This time I asked
Rajni to go & knock on his door. I told him it is super fun and Rajni's bed
was just next to our door. So he would have to run less. I encouraged him for
this grand event. Convincing Rajni for such things were often quite easy. I
assured him that to guide him I will stand in our door. Punit was watching all
this drama. Our brave warrior went out keeping his life in the hand. In the
name of The Great Rajnikanth, he knocked Chetan's door with his Thor's
hammer-like hand that the whole sky echoed with that sound. And then he ran
towards our room. As I saw he knocked hard on Chetan's door and ran, I closed our
room from inside. I and Punit were rolling on the floor laughing while Rajni
was knocking our door cursing me & pleading to open the door. Then Chetan
came out to find Rajni knocking our door like crazy. He asked Rajni, 'You were
knocking my door first and now you are knocking your own door. Is this your
afternoon hobby or what?.' Rajni tried to convince Chetan, 'It wasn't me. All
the time it was this @#*%## Sujeet and now he put me in a trap.' But it was too
late to convince. I opened our door and both came inside to find me & Punit
laughing our hearts out. To Rajni's surprise, Punit said yes it was Rajni all
the time, making Chetan angrier on him. We cherish this incident whenever we
talk. Hostel life was filled with such unforgettable stories of my friends.
